Intensive Outpatient Program

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at River City Recovery is designed for individuals who need structured, ongoing clinical support while maintaining greater flexibility in their daily lives. IOP is a step down from our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and serves as either a continuation of care or a standalone treatment option depending on a client’s needs.

IOP is often the turning point where clients begin reintegrating into work, school, or family life while still receiving regular therapy, accountability, and recovery support. It’s the balance between structure and independence, and a key part of our long-term recovery model.

Who IOP is For

IOP is ideal for individuals who:

Many clients in IOP are in early recovery. Others are returning after a setback or relapse. Regardless of the path, our goal is to support each client with a clear, personalized plan that promotes continued growth.

Program Format and Schedule

River City Recovery’s IOP typically includes:

  • 3 to 5 days per week of structured programming
  • 3 hours per day of group therapy, education, and skills development
  • Weekly individual therapy
  • Ongoing medication management (as needed)
  • Case management and recovery planning

Daytime and evening tracks may be available to accommodate employment, childcare, or other commitments. We believe that treatment should fit into your life, not force you to choose between recovery and responsibility.

Each client’s IOP schedule is tailored based on clinical needs and personal goals, with flexibility to increase or decrease intensity over time. We actively monitor attendance, participation, and progress to ensure clients are receiving the right level of care throughout their stay.

What You’ll Learn in IOP

The focus of IOP is to build practical tools, emotional insight, and sustainable habits for long-term recovery. Through a mix of clinical modalities and peer-driven dialogue, clients engage with topics such as:

  • Understanding addiction and the brain
  • Managing triggers, cravings, and relapse risks
  • Building emotional regulation skills
  • Identifying and healing trauma
  • Navigating relationships and boundaries
  • Developing a sober support system
  • Reclaiming values, goals, and identity
  • Creating a realistic, values-aligned life plan

We blend cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), relapse prevention, and experiential methods to create an engaging and effective curriculum. Group dynamics are carefully managed to maintain safety, cohesion, and trust.

Individualized Support

In addition to group therapy, every IOP client receives:

We also support employment readiness, community reintegration, and sober housing coordination when needed.

Continuity and Long-Term Planning

Recovery doesn’t end with IOP. Our team begins discharge planning early, ensuring clients have a clear path forward that may include:

If at any point a client needs more support, we can facilitate a return to PHP or provide referrals to higher levels of care.

IOP is where real-world recovery begins to take shape. It’s where clients start applying what they’ve learned while still having a safety net. At River City Recovery, we’re committed to walking with you through that transition and giving you the tools to thrive beyond it.
