Clinical Team

The clinical team at River City Recovery is the heart of our treatment program. These are the professionals who lead therapy groups, provide one-on-one counseling, create treatment plans, and support our clients through some of the most vulnerable and transformative periods of their lives. Their role is not just to treat disorders, but to build relationships that help people heal.

We believe great clinical care is about more than credentials. It’s about presence, intuition, and the ability to walk with someone through discomfort, ambiguity, and change. That’s why we don’t just hire based on resumes. We hire based on character, communication, and clinical judgment.

A Trauma-Informed, Person-Centered Approach

Our clinical team is trained in trauma-informed care, which means they understand that behavior is often rooted in past pain. Rather than asking, “What’s wrong with you?” we ask, “What happened to you?” This shift in perspective allows us to meet each client with empathy and nuance, especially when trust is fragile.

We also practice person-centered therapy. That means treatment isn’t about fitting people into rigid protocols; it’s about shaping services around who the client actually is: their history, their culture, their beliefs, and their goals.

Integrated Specializations

Each clinician brings a unique set of skills and clinical strengths, including but not limited to:

  • Substance use disorder treatment
  • Treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Relapse prevention and skill-building
  • Grief and trauma support
  • Family systems work
  • LGBTQ+ affirming therapy

This range allows us to match clients with therapists who best fit their needs and therapeutic goals.

Clinical Roles at River City Recovery

Our clinical team includes the following key roles:

Clinical Director

The Clinical Director oversees all therapeutic operations, supervises staff, and ensures the quality and integrity of care. This leader also supports curriculum design, case consultations, and clinical compliance.

Primary Therapists

Our primary therapists lead group therapy, conduct individual sessions, and provide the majority of direct client interaction. Each client is assigned a primary therapist who becomes their anchor throughout treatment, someone who tracks their progress, adjusts their plan, and helps guide their recovery.

Group Facilitators

Some of our groups are led by additional clinicians or counselors who specialize in specific topics such as trauma, family dynamics, recovery maintenance, or mindfulness-based practices. These facilitators enrich the curriculum with expertise and variety.

Case Coordination Support

Our clinicians collaborate closely with case management to ensure that treatment extends beyond the therapy room. Whether a client needs help with legal documentation, sober living options, or primary care coordination, the clinical team remains involved in supporting the full scope of each person’s recovery.

Supervision, Growth, and Professional Integrity

Every member of our clinical team participates in weekly case reviews, clinical supervision, and continuing education. We believe that if we ask clients to grow, we must do the same ourselves. This commitment to lifelong learning helps us stay sharp, relevant, and aligned with current best practices.

The clinical team at River City Recovery is more than a group of therapists. They are steady hands in moments of crisis, sounding boards during moments of doubt, and champions in moments of breakthrough. They are the living embodiment of our mission: to help people reclaim their lives with clarity, courage, and care.
